On 8-9 August 2015, the Royal Thai Embassy, in cooperation with the Egyptian Muay Thai Association (ECA), organized “Thailand’s Cup: Muay Thai Championship” in Egypt at Ashali Stadium, Nasr City. The event was attended by over 500 participants per day. The ASEAN Ambassadors in Cairo also attended at the opening ceremony.
Over 50 Egyptian Muay Thai boxers (6 men weight classes and 1 woman weight class) competed for the Cup. The winners, who were awarded 1,000 Egyptian pounds and championship belt, are as follows
– Men, Weight not over 54 kilograms: Mr. Mahmoud Gamal
– Men, Weight not over 60 kilograms: Mr. Abdelrahman Mostafa Saad Mohamed
– Men, Weight not over 67 kilograms: Mr. Ahmed Gamal Mohamed Mabrouk
– Men, Weight not over 75 kilograms: Mr. Atia Helmy Atia Abdelhadi
– Men, Weight not over 85 kilograms: Mr. Ahmed Abdelfattah Farid Mousa Said
– Men, Weight over 85 kilograms: Mr. Karim Samir Elsayed Mohamed Hamouda
– Women, Weight not over 60 kilograms: Ms. Yasmin Ahmed Shaaban Ahmed
The Embassy aims to promote Muay Thai to be widely known and more popular in Egypt. In this connection, the Embassy is scheduled to organize another Muay Thai competition, Muay Thai Cairo’s Cup, on 28-29 August 2015 at AUFC Academy, Heliopolis, Cairo.
