Everyone is guilty of letting their thoughts drift off in moments when they need to focus their whole attention on important tasks. Often you might also find yourself stressing over a future you can’t control or ruminate over a past that you can’t change. Fortunately, the art of mindfulness meditation can help with this dilemma.

How to Get Started with Mindfulness Meditation
If you’re looking to get started with the practice on your own, you’d be happy to know that it is rather straightforward, and not difficult at all to follow. However, if you need to practice it due to health reasons, it is recommended that you seek professional help from a trainer.

The following simple steps can help you get started on your own:

  1. Assign Your Meditation a Specific Time
Once your mind gets accustomed to performing tasks at a specific time, a perfect habit is formed. Assign a time slot that doesn’t overlap with any of your other important daily activities. Whether you save the last 30 minutes before heading off to bed, or the first 30 minutes in the morning before it’s time to officially time to start your day, it’s all up to you. If life gets in the way, as it often does, do not fret. Just try not to skip the following day.
  2. Find a Comfy Spot
Mindfulness meditation is meant to be relaxing, so try to find a spot that offers minimal disturbance. Pick a quiet and secluded corner of your home where you are sure to not be disturbed. It’s also preferable to wear loose and comfy clothing while you’re meditating.
  3. Draw Attention to Your Breathing
Mindfulness meditation is all about focusing on your breath. Take notice of it, and how it flows naturally in and out of your body. Feel it rushing through your body as you draw it in, and how it leaves as quickly as it enters in the same course. Feel your tummy gently rise and fall. When your thoughts come bursting in, don’t try to force them out. Instead, remain calm and note them, as you redirect your attention back to your breath.
